White Night 2011 – UTOPIA, compARTment presents, ‘Artists in Space’.

Last October, The London Rd Open Market was transformed into a glowing night-time arts Bazaar, that many commented was their favourite spot of the festival!

And this year we’ve been invited back.

The Open Market on London Rd has been the centre of a planning debate for over 10 years and, sadly, is now due to close for redevelopment in Dec 2011. The Market, established during the 1920’s, with it’s fresh produce stalls and bric a brac havens, cafes and bike maintenance workshops,  has had a long history of being a local shoppers paradise. With the uncertainty of its future building plans and the continuing delapidation of the London Rd  retail area, the market has suffered over the past 10 years and it would seem that the few market traders left there, were left with little option than to agree to the terms of the proposal.

CompARTment celebrate the life and times of the open market and invite others to come and pay homage to this great site and to make it bustle once again at it’s ‘Artists in Space’ event on White night.

White Night is Brighton & Hove’s unique all night cultural festival which takes place every year on the last Saturday in October when the clocks go back.

CompARTment return with their fantastical and alternative take on the celebrations with a family fun filled extravaganza in the Open Market.

The gates open at 6pm and run until 2am  ( BST ).

This years theme is UTOPIA – at the open market our ‘utopia’ is ‘Artists in Space’.

Our Mission…  to re-use and regenerate empty spaces in the city for creative projects, businesses and the community.
